8. Double Rewards Week

Image
Introduction From February 20-27, the Sea of Thieves held its first-ever "Double Rewards Week." During the first five days of this eight-day event, players received double the money and double the reputation for a different faction every day. The event ended with a three-day "Gold & Glory Weekend" in which pirates received bonuses for all factions. We have had Gold & Glory weekends in the past, but this was the first time bonus days have lasted for an entire week, and it was the first time there were days devoted to individual factions. Thankfully, I had this particular week (mostly) off, so I was able to play each day and compare how things went. I kept a diary of Jimi's achievements and observations each day of the event, and I will record them below. Read on. Perhaps you can find some hints for how to spend your next bonus day on the Seas! Day 1. Gold Hoarders 💰 Jimi's crew completed a total of six vaults for 1.5 million gold. We did not encounte

7. The Ghost Curse

Image
Season 8 introduced new PVP features built around a war between the new Guardians of Fortune and Servants of Flame factions. When you reach level 100 in either faction, you will receive a curse: the ghost curse from the Guardians and the skeleton curse from the Servants. Jimi has already reached level 100 in the Guardians faction, so today I would like to talk about my first impressions of the ghost curse. 1. Ghoulish Shenanigans Chances are, you've died a lot in the Sea of Thieves and have already seen a ghost version of your character on the Ferry of the Damned. The ghost curse is pretty much the same thing with some sparkles. With the ghost curse, your character will look a bit like the Pirate Lord or Pendragon... or just some unfortunate victim of spawn-campers ruminating about his life choices on the Ferry of the Damned! While previous curses were similar to tattoos or makeup, only partially affecting your appearance, the new ghost and skeleton curses completely change your ch

6. Community Days

Image
Today was Season 8 "Community Day" in the Sea of Thieves, so it's only fitting that I write about this very special day. What is Community Day? Roughly one year ago (January 31, 2022), the Sea of Thieves celebrated its first Community Day. Throughout the day, the base amount of gold players received for selling treasure multiplied. It's a great day to amass treasure... or in true pirate fashion to let someone else do all the work so you can steal it and sell it for them in the end! 😇 There are also free flags, emotes, Twitch drops, and more for people who log in and participate during Community Day. Rare also hands out the coveted  Hat of Unfeasibly Glorious Fame to particularly active and creative players during this day. If you log in during Community Day, you will get a special flag. Jimi is proud to own all four of the flags so far, though he still likes the first one (the blue one) best!  Comparing Community Day Rewards The first Community Day was held during S

5. Filching a FoF Without Fighting

Image
Yes. You read the title correctly. Last week Jimi and Poet stole an entire Fort of Fortune without firing a single cannonball or bullet (or even swinging a sword)! And as if that wasn't uncanny enough,  we did this on a server where a FoF never appeared . How did this happen, you ask? Read on! A Fort of Fortune Key at Skull Keep 1. No Sign of a FoF Last week, in  How to Enjoy Season 8 , I wrote that you should always check out the servers you pass through when you use the new PVP matchmaking feature to dive to new servers. You never know what adventures might await you! Some of my most exciting adventures on the Sea of Thieves to date have been discovered in this way, including the  Fort of Mysteries ! When we emerged from the waves onto the server, there was a red Ashen Winds tornado looming nearby. There was no sign of a Fort of Fortune, nor was there any sign of a FoF vault key on the map. Using the new PVP matchmaking mechanism, we emerged onto a server with an Ashen Winds even
